The Role & Expectations of Academic Supervisors

As a Supervisor Member, here’s what we expect and how you can contribute:

Mentor & guide

Provide intellectual, methodological, and professional guidance to doctoral candidates registered or affiliated with DCUK.

Reviewer / advisor

Offer feedback on research proposals, draft chapters, or project plans when invited.

Community contributor

Share your insights through webinars, blog posts, case studies, or panels.

Event facilitator

Lead or moderate sessions at events, workshops, or symposia.

Quality advocate

Help maintain high standards in doctoral supervision, promoting ethical practice, inclusion, and rigor.

Time commitment & expectations
We understand supervisors are busy. Contributions can be flexible and tailored—ranging from occasional mentoring roles or peer reviews to more sustained involvement in events or editorial boards. The minimum expectation is an active interest in engaging with the community, timely responses when involved, and a commitment to supporting doctoral success.

Submit a brief supervisor profile (your qualifications, research areas, supervision experience).
Once approved, your profile will go live on the platform; you will gain access to supervisor-only resources and be notified of upcoming engagement opportunities.
