MyDoctorate
MyDoctorate is the dedicated virtual learning environment (VLE) developed by Doctoral College UK (DCUK) to support distance learning doctoral candidates throughout their research journey. Built on the Moodle platform, MyDoctorate provides a structured and accessible digital environment where PhD learners can engage with research training, academic resources, and supervisory guidance regardless of their geographical location.
The platform has been designed specifically to support flexible and distance-based doctoral study. Many DCUK candidates are experienced professionals studying alongside demanding careers and international commitments. MyDoctorate enables these learners to access programme materials, research guidance, and academic support at any time, allowing them to progress through their doctoral preparation and research development in a flexible and structured manner.
Within the Moodle environment, students can access a wide range of doctoral learning resources and research training modules. These include materials covering research design, literature review development, qualitative and quantitative methodologies, academic writing, and research ethics. Recorded lectures, seminar materials, and reading lists are organised into structured learning sections that guide students through the different stages of doctoral research development.
MyDoctorate also supports supervision and research progress monitoring. Supervisors can share guidance documents, provide feedback on research drafts, and direct students to relevant learning materials through the platform. Milestones and research activities can be organised within the system so that students clearly understand the expectations and progression stages associated with doctoral-level study.
An important feature of the MyDoctorate platform is its ability to support interactive and collaborative learning. Through discussion forums, research discussion spaces, and webinar integration, doctoral candidates can participate in scholarly conversations with fellow researchers and supervisors. This interaction helps reduce the isolation that can sometimes occur in distance learning environments while encouraging intellectual exchange and peer learning.
The platform also hosts resources linked to research dissemination and scholarly development. Students may access guidance on preparing conference posters, developing journal articles, and presenting research findings. These resources support the development of academic communication skills that are essential for doctoral researchers.
Because MyDoctorate operates through the Moodle framework, it benefits from a stable, secure, and widely used learning technology infrastructure. Moodle is used by universities worldwide to support higher education delivery, providing reliable tools for content delivery, assessment activities, communication, and learning management.
Ultimately, MyDoctorate functions as the digital academic home for DCUK doctoral learners. By combining structured research training materials, supervision support, and interactive academic engagement within a single online environment, the platform enables doctoral candidates to participate fully in their research development while studying at a distance. This digital infrastructure forms a key part of DCUK’s commitment to providing accessible and flexible doctoral education for professionals around the world.
