Post Graduate Research study leading to PhD
​​​IELTS and Proficiency testing​
If you study with Doctoral College UK it is important to note that we only deliver Level 11 and Level 12 Post Graduate studies.
​However, it is easy to begin your postgraduate study with us, and every year we help all of our successful applications achieve extraordinary things. IELTS at the correct level for postgraduate study is one of the essentials requirements that you will need to help you get your application started.

IELTS
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) requirement for a Tier 4 Visa to study in the UK at Post-Graduate level requires an average band score of 6.5 for with a minimum band score of 6.0 in all categories.
Proficiency testing
During staged progressions with evidence for Academic/Assignment/Chapter Writing’ and with Oral Presentation sessions where students listen to instructions and discuss their research. Students English will be assessed, and feedback recommendations will be made to stimulate continuous improvement. Support for English improvement is available via the English Teaching Unit, however this is normally at an extra cost.

Access Qualifications
1. Undergraduate entry into the SCQF Level 11 Extended Diploma (120 Credits) in Management equivalent to UK Qualifications Credits and qualifications Framework for Post Graduate Diploma in Management. This is the subject knowledge qualification for management and the curriculum content is designed and created as 11 units taught in sequence month after month with 1 month college vacation in August. Admissions are therefore monthly, with exits/progressions also monthly but only on completion of the qualification.
2. The Masters entry into the SCQF Level 11 Diploma (60 Credits) in Starting to Research is the Access Research Award into the PhD for Master’s Students. It is fundamentally a top-up qualification for the PGDip in Management re-focused into PhD requirements for a successful entry into research as a PhD student. Admissions are monthly because of one-to-one supervision and teaching, with exits/progressions also monthly but only on completion of the qualification.​
PhD Qualifications
3. The SCQF Level 11 Year 1 of the PhD (180 Credits) is an Advanced Diploma. This is the Year 1 of the PhD with key progression milestones to enable the learner to evidence the designated milestone achievements. Admissions are monthly because of one-to-one supervision and teaching, with exits/progressions also monthly but only on completion of the qualification.​
​4. The SCQF Level 12 Year 2 of the PhD (180 Credits) is an Advanced Diploma. This is the Year 2 of the PhD with key progression milestones to enable the learner to evidence the designated milestone achievements. Admissions are monthly because of one-to-one supervision and teaching, with exits/progressions also monthly but only on completion of the qualification.

​5. The SCQF Level 12 Year 3 of the PhD (180 Credits) is an Advanced Diploma. This is the Year 3 of the PhD with key progression milestones to enable the learner to evidence the designated milestone achievements. Admissions are monthly because of one-to-one supervision and teaching, with exits/progressions also monthly but only on completion of the qualification.
